From that day forward, I have been trying my best to make my dream of being a dentist come true. If you are reading this, I assume you have an interest in a career in dentistry, too! Get some dental experience. I was lucky enough to attend a high school with a brand new dental assisting program.
Pre-Dental Meh, I went through a few different goals before I wanted to be a Dentist, so for me, it has not been like I have always wanted to be a dentist. In high school, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I was very interested in animals and one thing I always felt like I wanted to do was something in the medical field.
But my interest in animals faded away, but I still wanted to work in the medical field, so I tried shadowing a physician for 4 weeks. I kinda felt like I wanted to be a physician, however, I did want to be more hands on.
I like how physicians talk to their patients and everything, but I also wanted to do something more hands on as physicians did not do much themselves other than telling their patients what to do.
So I then I thought about dentistry. It seemed to match everything I wanted to do, talking to the patient and performing procedures myself.
Currently and I volunteer at a free dental clinic and I can completely see myself doing this several years from now. Oh yeah, and I plan on opening my own practice one day I guess most people dobecause I also want to be a business man.
Yet another good match for me and dentistry.Whether it is the dental team (dental hygienist, assistant and lab technician) working together with the patient to ensure the restoration and maintenance of oral health, or the dentist’s role on an interprofessional team, working with other health professionals to improve overall health, the dentist receives much satisfaction as a primary team player.
Memories of a childhood dental experience or, perhaps, the fact that another family member is a dentist, may influence the decision to pursue dentistry as a career. These same students may mistakenly think that the job is not physically taxing, you make tons of money, and you get to call all the shots.
